Disease of Heart

Diseases of the heart are two categories. Medical and spiritually. My topic is spiritual one. Some time we do sin or involve in sin no one can see except Allah (swt) those sins which are committed by the heart but  those sin can be make an impact on our actions.

In ‘Wonders of the Heart’, Imam Al-Ghazali describes the differences between the heart of flesh that sits in the chest and the ethereal heart that is described as a “subtle, tenuous substance”, whilst acknowledging the important connection between the two.

 Imam Al-Ghazali once wrote:

“Other sins are like the mosquitoes hatched in a swampland and the sins of the heart are like the swampland itself. Unless the swampland ( sins of the heart) is not eradicated, it would not be possible to get rid of the mosquitoes ( other sins).”

It is essential part of every believers to have sound heart otherwise it can be problematic for him or her in hereafter.

As Allah said in the Quran:

The Day when there will not benefit [anyone] wealth or children. But only one who comes to Allah with a sound heart. [Qur’an 26:88-89]

A sound heart is that which is free from  ingratitude, disbelief, hypocrisy, and  other spiritual diseases.

If heart is not sound it can  make a person ungrateful and this ingratitude can lead a person towards heinous crime.

The Prophet Muhammad (saw) said:

“That which is lawful is clear and that which is unlawful is clear, and between the two of them are doubtful matters about which many people do not know. Thus he who avoids doubtful matters clears himself in regard to his religion and his honour, but he who falls into doubtful matters eventually falls into that which is unlawful, like the shepherd who pastures around a sanctuary, all but grazing therein. Truly every king has a sanctuary, and truly Allah’s sanctuary is His prohibitions. Truly in the body there is a morsel of flesh, which, if it be whole, all the body is whole, and which, if it is diseased, all of [the body] is diseased. Truly, it is the heart.” [Bukhari & Muslim]

To get ultimate success it is especially important to have sound heart.

فؤاد, Arabic word Fouad meaning “heart”.

Its root word is the verb ‘’fa’ada’’ meaning burning or a flame and ‘’lahmun fa’eed’’ means a roasted meat on a fire. It is used to describe a heart that is inflamed with emotion.

Allah focussing on our heart , our every action acceptance depend on our heart soundness and  caring for this heart is a sure indication of the slave’s success.

On the other hand, neglecting the heart seriously compromises its wellbeing.

Imam Al-Ghazâli said:

Knowing the heart and the reality of its qualities is the foundation of deen (religion) and the bedrock of the path of those who seek [Allah’s pleasure]

I Hya ʿUlum Al-Deen, 5:11.
