In our time atheism and rejecting existence of God every other day taking dominating position. Already it is dominate ideology in western world and slowly it is also spreading eastern world. There are so many reason triggering spreading this ideology , such as- spread injustice, distancing from core religious teaching, conflict between religious scholars , development science and technology and allegation against religious authority and religion itself, awareness about human rights and demolish slavery concept and want absolute freedom, manipulate the historical truth and most importantly emphasise on materialistic life style all of these issues are helping spread atheist philosophy globally and slowly this philosophical ideology becoming dominate position.
Human mind always asking question some time it is about our origin sometimes about challenge and struggle of life, why or how? We want instant answer , most of time we don’t get it at all and this create doubt . Most of cases we forgot our limitation. We think we are intellect and we will understand everything if we cannot understand it is false and no existence at all. This thought came from absolute pride, we forget though we are intellect creature but we are the part of this nature and we have so many limitation and our brain cannot able to comprehends all the things we are experiencing in our life.
There is one common goal every human whatever ideology they belongs want to achieve one thing that is happiness. Every one is seeking happiness and fulfilment . Philosophers define happiness various way. Understanding happiness was quite different for ancient Greece philosophers than modern time philosopher’s.
Hellenistic and Pre – Hellenistic, from Socrates to Stoicism every philosopher emphasize on Eudaimonia which is a branch of ethics in philosophy that deals with wellbeing as the ultimate good for people. It is sometimes mistakenly referred to as the study of happiness. Greek philosophers had a very different concept of what is happiness than our modern view of point.
Most of ancient Greece philosophers born in pagan society and experienced out most injustice and corruption and pain in society . Certainly they want change but their mind cannot understand fully or failed to comprehend all they experienced and their experienced with false religion made some of them agnostics or ended up clearly rejecting the existence of God. Same tendency we can find in ancient Hinduism. Hindu philosophy clearly divided in major two branch Astika(orthodox) and Nastika(Heterodox). The main reason of this division is again false religion and oppress people on the name of religion which took philosopher that stage to reject the whole concept of religion . Charvaks was one of those movement.
Sarvasiddhanta Samgraha, demonstrate the hedonistic philosophy of Charvaks-
‘’the enjoyment of heavens lies in eating delicious food, keeping company of young women, using fine clothes, perfumes, garlands, sandal paste….while Moksha is death which cessation of life-breath……the wise therefore ought not to take pains on account of Moksha. A fool wears himself out by penances and fasts. Chastity and other such ordinances are laid down by clever weaklings.’’ To Charvaks one should enjoy their life in every aspects to them nothing wrong with sensual pleasure, they don’t believe in any moral ethics.
Charvaks philosophy is very similar with todays atheist philosophy.
In modern time Nihilism movement came with very similar concept that ancient South Asian hedonistic philosophical movement Charvaks used to preach.
Nihilist came with idea or slogan that ‘’God is dead’’, by this they reject the concept of existence of God.
This philosophical movement reject the idea of meaningful aspects of life. According to them life has no objective meaning and they also reject the concept of morality because they believed morality doesn’t exist. Exact this philosophical concept either name of secularism or liberalism spreading in our time which contain very similar thought of Charvaks.
Does rejecting existence of God can give us peace ,fulfilment ,justice and happiness? If believing existence of God arise few questions what about those tones of questions arise just rejecting existence of God?
In second part we will see how rejection of existence of God create absurdism and void.
